We welcome Keira into our group and the more I talk to her, the more I like her. She’s really nice but brutally honest, which is something I can appreciate as well as respect.

She tells us how the other cheerleaders hate her because she has no interest in chasing after football players and falling at their feet, but won’t kick her off the squad because her family have money and she’s a good dancer. Chloe asks her if she has no interest in football players, then why did she ‘fuck’ Jake. Keira answers with a blunt “because he’s hot” and the subject is dropped. I expect to feel something when she talks about Jake, but I don’t. Or I don’t let myself anyway, I’m not too sure which one it is.

The truth of the matter is that Jake and I started dating just after I’d gone through one of the worst experiences of my life. He was there to comfort me and help me through it and of course the attraction was there, it was intense but now it’s sort of fizzled out. I find myself caring less and less about him every time I see him with a different girl and I’m glad of it. Sure it sucks that we aren’t even friends now but him and Logan are, that’s all I care about.

I think about the little flutters I got when I was playing around with Ethan and look over to find him. He’s laughing at something Logan is saying to all the guys. There’s the flutters again. I turn back to the girls and see them all staring at me, clearly noticing that I was checking him out.

“Wow, you do actually like him,” Chloe says amazed.

“I wouldn’t be going on a date with him if I didn’t,” I laugh.

“I know but I had this small feeling you were only doing it because you knew I wanted you to move on,” she tells me, guilt written all over her face.

I reach over and pull her into a hug, telling her to cheer up and she laughs as we both roll back on the sand.
